Gruyères

Surrounded by watchtowers and ramparts, Gruyères, the former capital of a medieval earldom, is perched at an altitude of 800 metres like a sentry on an isolated hill at the entry of the upper Gruyère region. You will find in this completely pedestrian picturesque town one of the most prestigious castles in Switzerland. In the heart of Gruyères stands the worldfamous HR Giger Museum, with its fantastic café opposite the museum.

Don’t forget to pay a visit to the Nestlé chocolate factory in Broc, and the cheese factory down the village. Or go, in a short drive, to the Lake of Gruyères, one of the biggest manmade lakes in Switzerland.
